The name of the school is Mandal Parishad Primary School. Everyday a meal payment is shared by a group of women on WhatsApp, where slots are open in an Excel sheet that is maintained by a member of the community in Hyderabad. People fill in their names based on their availability and plan a visit/donation/interaction with the school.
The kids are normally served breakfast, as that is the most important need. The break also lures kids to school, as sometimes it is being able to be provided at home. This meal is prepared by an external vendor, whom we collectively pay, and is carried to the school by the volunteering women. To serve breakfast costs Rs 990 Rs for 150 kids. What is also given are groceries and salaries for the cooks. These are shared payments/contributions by the volunteers, and the need is expressed through a WhatsApp group is fulfilled/covered by whichever volunteer can provide.
Without all this external help, the school’s condition would be tough. The kids come to school for a good meal and to study. By providing food, we also reduce one less hassle for the school to provide, making their education more focused and streamlined. Most of their parents are not in the position to provide for them, so this group of volunteers (mainly women) creates a big impact for over 150 kids.
